Strategy Development
Creative Industries: Informing D&I Strategy
Creative Scotland
Background
Creative Scotland is the public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries across all parts of Scotland. In the course of developing a 10 year strategy, we were commissioned to carry out a Equality Evidence Review to inform the strategy.
The strategic aims included increased access to artistic and creative experiences, and ideas brought to life by a diverse, skilled and connected leadership and workforce.
Approach
This work focused on two main areas: employment in the creative industries and public participation in the creative arts. These two areas are interconnected, and additionally it was important that the equality evidence cross referred to socio economic circumstance given the labour market and the relative cost of some forms of art.
Process
Scoping began with outlining the main barriers to the creative industries and considering the circumstances of protected groups. The strategy identified Equality and Diversity as a connecting theme, which was an effective way of mainstreaming equality. The D&I Strategy aligned with the overarching aims, and we developed a strategic framework.
