Subway Modernisation Programme

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport

Glasgow Subway owner and operator Strathclyde Partnership for Transport is undertaking a modernisation programme which is the first full scale upgrade since 1980. The programme includes the refurbishment of all stations on the network and the instruction of a new smart ticketing system.

We were asked to produce an Equality Impact Assessment on how the Programme paid due regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty and to assist with mainstreaming equality in the Programme.

How You will Benefit from Outsourcing Equality Impact Assessments

Save Time – We can do the back end work which gives you more time for implementation of policies, organisational development and engaging stakeholders in your diversity agenda.

Reduce Risk – Our lead consultant is legally qualified and a non practising member of the Law Society. Her expertise will ensure that your equality impact assessments comply with the duty to pay due regard to the General Equality Duty.

Reduce Effort – Equality and diversity is a highly specialised professional field and you may not have the in house resources to produce equality impact assessments. It takes some time for beginners to learn how to do an equality impact assessment. We can produce comprehensive assessments in short time frames as we can refer to our inhouse research material.

Increase Quality – We do not do “tick box” assessments. Our equality impact assessments review how you can better meet the three elements of the General Equality Duty in policies and practice. The output will assist you in continuous improvement.

Reduce Cost – Equality impact assessments of decisions and practices, such as a prospective restructuring, can be time consuming and resource intensive. Given our vast experience, we can produce these for you at a cost which is lower than the equivalent internal resource cost.

Inform Future Practice – You can use the assessment which we draft for you as a benchmark for future equality impact assessments. You can also refer to the equality evidence which we produce in other similar assessments.

Catalyst for Change – When used correctly, equality impact assessments can support change and drive continuous improvement. An assessment can support you in making change that improves the provision of services and employment to protected groups.

Help Difficult Decisions – In these times particularly, public authorities may need to make difficult decisions about how services are delivered, and to what extent. COVID-19 may also necessitate staff restructuring or changes to work patterns. We can assess the equality impact of these decisions and reduce the risk of discrimination and/or non compliance with the General Equality Duty.
