Diversity Strategy
Data Review and Attracting Diversity
Faculty of Advocates
Background
The Faculty of Advocates is an independent body of lawyers who have been admitted to practice as advocates before the courts of Scotland, especially the Court of Session and the High Court of Judiciary. The Faculty of Advocates is a constituent part of the College of Justice and is based in Edinburgh.
The Faculty asked us to assist them in reviewing the equality data which they collect from members and support them in developing a strategy to attract greater diversity.
Approach
We advised that the Faculty cross refer equality data with socio economic data as encouraging diverse applicants needs to take into socio economic circumstances into account.
Process
We reviewed the existing data categories and levels of disclosure. We revised the categories and added questions about socio economic status, and drafted explanatory notes to explain why the data was being requested and what would be done with the data.. We supported the development of a longer term strategic framework.
