Mainstreaming D&I Strategy
Building Capacity
National Museums Scotland
Background
National Museums Scotland cares for collections of national and international importance, preserving them, interpreting them and making them accessible to as many people as possible.
They also work with museums and communities across Scotland and beyond to introduce collections to a much wider audience than can physically visit their museums, through partnerships, touring exhibitions, community engagement and digital programmes.
We won the tender to develop a toolkit, guidance and training sessions for all managers on mainstream D&I Strategy.
Approach
We met with the client first to understand more about the context. All policies had been equality impact assessed, and the client wanted to enhance understanding of mainstreaming equality in practice. We worked together to develop case studies, including one about mobile exhibitions and how to attract a more diverse audience into the museums.
Process
We identified learning outcomes at inception, and began with developing case studies and practice examples. Once these had been agreed, we drafted an Equality Impact Assessment template and Toolkit. Raising awareness began with briefing sessions for executive staff in order to set out the aims and to ensure senior buy in. Training sessions for all managers were delivered with follow up support clinics.
